The Zagi 400 was my first sucessful electricaly powered plane. I bought the kit from
EPP Models, the uk manufacturer of Zagis, at the Sandown
model show in 1999, just as they were released here in the UK. The initial few flights
were a little hairy whilst I got used to the way it flew but after that it was great.
The motor supplied with the 400 in the UK dosent seem to last too well. Mine died after
about 10 flights. Not really a big problem, with speed 400 motors costing all of £5 or
thereabouts. I was still a little new to e-flight at this point and ended up getting
a 7.2 volt speed 400 as a replacement for my burned out motor. The zagi still flew
reasonably and the flight times were better but the performance was way down. It flew
like this for ages until I saw the light and fitted a 6 volt motor again.
The 400 got retired in the end because it was pretty messed up from crashes,
hangar rash and the dreaded Zagi Flap. It is now in the process of mutating into
sonething a little more like a razor, but as a tractor rather than a pusher. It's
still being built at the moment but the provisionaly named trazor (Tractor Razor)
can be seen
here.
